Visiting Sydney
Every year, surgeons from around the world come to Sydney to spend time with our group. They come to see what a research-driven rhinology practice looks like when the evidence and the clinical work are genuinely integrated

WHAT OBSERVERS EXPERIENCE
DURATION & PRACTICAL DETAILS
Observers typically spend four to six weeks with the group, though a minimum of two weeks is possible. Most who come for two weeks wish they had stayed longer. Four weeks is the sweet spot — enough time to see the full breadth of clinical activity and to begin to understand the patterns and decision-making that run through it.
We accommodate a maximum of two observers at any one time. If two observers are already booked for your preferred dates, you are still welcome to join us for operating sessions — though clinic attendance will not be available during that period. We recommend reaching out early to secure your preferred timing.
Many observers time their visit to coincide with our annual International Sydney Sinus Surgery Course. Held in early August each year.. Details at fesscourse.org.au
At the conclusion of their visit, observers receive a certificate of completion recognising their time with the group. Hospital registration and visa support documentation can be arranged through our coordinator.
WHO JOINS US
Surgeons from more than 25 countries across six continents have spent time with our group since the observer program began in 2024. They include otolaryngologists at all career stages — from trainees to established consultants — united by a shared interest in how a research-active rhinology practice approaches disease assessment and management.

International Sydney Sinus Surgery Course
Our annual endoscopic sinus surgery course has been completely redesigned around a problem-based, case-oriented approach to teaching FESS — moving beyond anatomy-driven dissection toward clinical decision-making in the operating room. Many observers time their visit to Sydney to coincide with the course.
COME TO SYDNEY
Observers are welcome year-round. To check availability and coordinate dates, contact our observer program coordinator Ms Charlotte Chan. Charlotte can confirm availability, assist with date coordination, and arrange hospital registration ahead of your visit.
CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP
The Observer Program is distinct from the Sydney Rhinology Clinical Fellowship — a formal competitive year-long post-training fellowship conducted through the American Rhinologic Society SF Match program. If you are interested in the clinical fellowship please see the Clinical Fellowship page.
